Their hopes, dreams and aspirations....
Jose Promis*****************************************************************
Interview with Jose Promis BY L.SHANNON February 1st 2010 L Shannon: Good evening Jose, tell me what are your music plans for 2010? Where can people expect to see your performances?
JOSE: In 2010 I hope to go to Europe and do more shows! I also want to record my fifth CD and hopefully finally fulfill my dream of being able to live off my music (without having a draining day job!) L.Shannon: How many albums have you released internationally to date and have you brought them to the worlds' attention by going on tour, so that we can all have the opportunity of hearing you perform live? JOSE: I have released four albums to date! They are all available internationally on Cdbaby.com and I Tunes and several other web sites. Myspace helped me get my music to a wide, international audience. I hope I can go on tour this year!! Although for that I need someone to help me book shows and for promotion. L Shannon: Do you have a favourite track from each of your albums? JOSE: The first album I'd say "When Lovers Get Bored," or maybe "The Street." The second my favorite(s) would be "Endless Road and Moonlit Night" and "For Now Forever and Always." The third album would be "The Accordion Player," "Ghost" and "Tomorrow Start Again," and from the fourth, "I Promise" and "Lovesick." L Shannon: So, you will be back in the recording studios in Los Angeles, later this year. Tell us about any new material that you'll be working with!? JOSE: My new songs!! Including one which I co-wrote with you, "Maybe We Can Write A Song," which I think will be a highlight of the album. The sound will be more of the cabaret/dark humour which I utilized in my first two CDs. One of my favorite songs which I think has so far been clicking well with audiences is "Spring Of My 17th Year." L Shannon: Will you be considering Ireland as part of a future European Tour? JOSE: I would love that. I have never been to Ireland. That would be nothing more than a dream come true. If I can get booked, then I am there!!! L Shannon: So, thank you Jose for taking time out of your busy schedule to take part in "The Interview With The Stars!", it's much appreciated and I wish you all the best for the future, definitely hope to see you touring Ireland in the not too distant future. JOSE: Oh you are welcome Lesley, always a pleasure talking to you! Thanks for asking me to be a part of Interview with the Stars! |
Matthew Gilsenan***************************************************************** Interview with Matthew Gilsenan BY L.SHANNON February 23rd 2010 L Shannon: Good morning Matthew! Thank You for taking the time out to take part in the new "Interview With The Stars!". I want to ask you a question that relates to the latest album from The Celtic Tenors, entitled "Hard Times". That was recorded in Los Angeles; to date would you say this has been your favourite recording studio?
Matthew: This was certainly the most open and "organic" studio experience to date. If someone had a good idea that needed a specialised player, there was a session musician at the door twenty minutes later ready to play a fiddle or whatever that idea meant playing. No greater example that then David Baerwald truned up to play on his song "Come What May" with James. L Shannon: Simon Cowell responded very quickly in getting in touch with many of the top recording artists in the world to record REM's classic song "Everybody Hurts" ; a charity single to raise much needed funds for Rebuilding Haiti after a dramatic earthquake devastated their entire lives and infrastructure. Do you think there might be a similar get together from the classical world of opera singers and performers, and if so, what piece would you think would be appropriate? Matthew: This would be a great idea, I would need to really think about what Aria or song. maybe even Nessun Dorma, "None Shall Sleep Until The Solution Is Found" L Shannon: It's been a while since The Celtic Tenors recorded an album of opera and classical cross over, is this something you might consider as a theme for your next album, a return to your classical roots, one might say? Matthew: Maybe, it is certainly one of the routes we're thinking about. L Shannon: You have toured a lot with The Celtic Tenors over the last 12 years or more and visited many countries. The Sydney Opera House in Australia always strikes me as one of the key choice of venues for leading opera singers; next to Teatro alla Scala (La Scala), where would you, a singer in your own right; independent of your fellow members, love to perform? Tread the boards as they say!? Matthew: La Scala, the Met in New York, the Royal opera house Covent Garden. Too many to count. Who knows, I'll keep practicing. L Shannon: Have you ever considered performing a solo night, example "An Evening With...Matthew Gilsenan" at Ireland's leading venue, The National Concert Hall and if so, what would your style of repetoire be? Matthew: I have given it some thought. I would love to do an evening of the songs and arias that I love from Puccini to Liam Clancy, to Richard Thompson to Tom Waits to Paul Brady. It could be very interesting. L Shannon: Have you seen any of the Popstars to Operastars shows and if so, what is your opinion on a reality show of that calibre? Matthew:I have seen Rhidian and Paul Potts. I think they are both great and they have an ingredient that others who might be better trained in the idiom do not have; balls and the ability to think laterally. So many highly trained opera singers who would win these competitions just don't enter because they are snobs. L Shannon: Hmm..Interesting answer! Finally, what are your music plans for 2010? What are your hopes & aspirations for the new year? Matthew: at least one new record with the tenors, at least one show on my own, start recording some music on my own. Remain committed to a really great act that I love being a part of and push the musical boundaries to be truly progressive and leading the field in what we do. L Shannon: So, I'd like to thank you for taking the time answer a few questions and I wish you & The Celtic Tenors continued success and all the best for the future. Matthew: Thanks Lesley, It's a pleasure as always chatting....M |
